Abu Huraira (may Allah be please with him) reported the Apostle of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as saying: The Jews were split into seventy one or seventy two sects: and the Christians were split into seventy one or seventy two sects: and my community will be split up into seventy three sects.
(Sunan Abu Dawud: Eng Trans: vol 3 no 4579)
All of these will go into hell except one group, which will go into paradise. Throughout the history of Islaam many different groups have claimed, and are still claiming to be this special saved group. So how do we get into this saved group, and rescue ourselves, and our families from the fire of hell?
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I leave amongst you two things. You will never go astray as long as you hold by them: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger.
(Muwatta: Imaam Malik: Eng Trans: p375 no 1599)
The teachings of Islaam are preserved in the Qur’an, and the Sunnah is protected till the last day, confirmed by the following two passages:
Narrated Al-Mughira bin Shu’ba: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “A group of my followers will remain predominant (victorious) till Allah’s order (the Hour) comes upon them while they are still predominant (victorious).”
(Sahih Al-Bukhari: Eng Trans: vol 9 no 414)
(Iblis-Satan) said: “O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. Except Your chosen (guided) slaves among them.”
(al-Qur’an 15:39-40)
From these passages it is clear that there will always be a group of Muslims who are on the right path until the day of judgement. And THAT group will be of those who follow the commands from the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah.
Jabir b.Abdullah (Allah be pleased with him) reported, “We were sitting in the company of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He drew a line, and drew two (other) lines on its right side, and two lines on its left side. He then placed his hand on the middle line, and remarked, “This is Allah’s path.” Then He recited this verse: And verily, it is My Straight Path; so follow not the (other) paths. They will separate you away from His Path.” (al-Qur’an 6:153)
(Ibn-I-Majah: Eng Trans: vol 1 no 11)
Division and false beliefs are the downfall of a Muslim; time after time we have been reminded to keep away from falsehood. Verily, those who divide their religion and break up into sects (all kinds of religious sects) you (O Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)) have no concern in them in the least. Their affair is only with Allah, who then will tell them what they used to do.
(al-Qur’an 6:159)
It is said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited this verse, and said: “These people are those who invent new things (bid’ah) in religion, and the followers of vain desires of this Muslim nation, and their repentance will not be accepted by Allah.”
(Tafsir Al-Qurtubi vol 7 p150)
False beliefs, and practices are so common, and widespread nowadays, that those who follow the true Islamic religion are seen as strange.
Surely, Islaam began as something strange, and it will become something strange, so give glad tidings to the stranger for they will set right the corruptions caused in my Sunnah by people after me.
(Collected by at-Tirmidhee and Muslim (Sahih Muslim: vol 1 no 270))
Imitations of un-Islamic values have taken such a firm hold in the minds of Muslims, that Islamic values appear strange to them, and those who uphold them are considered to be strangers in the modern society. To those who hold these strange values are given glad tidings by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Allah says to the believers:
Say, if you love Allah, follow me (Muhammad) and Allah will love you.
(al-Qur’an 3:31)
Therefore Allah’s love can be attained by following His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) strictly, and avoiding innovations (bid’ah).
Keep to my Sunnah and that of the rightly guided Caliphs, and bite onto it with your molars. But beware of innovations, for verily, they are all bid’ah (heresy) which themselves are all misguidance leading to the hellfire.
(Collected by Abu Dawood (Sunan Abu Dawood: Eng Trans: vol 3 p1294 no 4590) and at-Tirmidhee)
It is important to stick to the true teachings of Islaam, and keep away from our own desires, and false beliefs, which are not within our religion. There have been many misguided, and deviant groups that have arisen; where did they go wrong? They went wrong because they left the authentic Sunnah, they followed people instead of following Allah, and they followed their own desires instead of following Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Do you want to live a short false life in this world, following the devils path, and suffer for eternity in the next life? Or do you want to live a life based on the true Sunnah in this world, and in the hereafter live in gardens under which rivers flow, forever in eternal happiness?
The answer is simple, follow the Qur’an, and the authentic Sunnah: and be saved, or forever regret the one chance you had in this worldly life.
